smart snackSnack Smart, Save Money, Time and Calories

It’s completely normal to snack throughout the day. While it can be tempting to opt for the fast, easy (but unhealthy) options, taking a minute to snack smart can save you time, money and calories. Keep the following three tips in mind to help you snack smart at the office and at home.

  1. Take a break. When you reach for your snack, don’t eat it while working. Instead, take a quick break to eat your snack uninterrupted and to avoid overeating.
  2. Meal prep your snacks. One of the best ways to avoid impulsively purchasing unhealthy snacks from the vending machine or the mini-mart is to pre-portion your healthy snacks at the beginning of the week and bring them with you to work or have them in your refrigerator or pantry.
  3. Some easy to prep ahead snacks are:
Frozen grapes, melon chunks and cucumber slices (cucumbers are melons too). They will keep you feeling full and hydrated too.
Greek yogurt is delicious in a fruit or granola parfait or as a dip for broccoli and cauliflower.
Grape tomatoes are filling and refreshing.
Cheese, milk and hummus are also versatile snacks and easy to prep.  Hummus is tasty with veggies, cheese is an easy snack food and milk keeps you full and away from eating unhealthy snacks.

Ask your family for healthy snack suggestions.   You’ll be surprised what they will come up with to help with your snack prepping!
