The Shingletown Medical Center (SMC) will be adding two new classes to their “Quality Improvement Program Peer-led Self-Management Support Group” program being sponsored by Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC). This PHC program sponsors free-to-the-public classes focusing on health, exercise, nutrition and behavior health support groups.

Friday’s – 9:00am to 10:00am
“These Shoes were made for Walking”

The walking group class will begin on Friday, April 1st. The group will meet rain or shine every Friday at 9:00am at the entrance of Lassen Woods subdivision (4 miles east of downtown Shingletown). Locations subject to change upon group decision. Walking shoes, water bottle and comfortable clothes are recommended. Bring the kids, bikes, scooters etc. Invite a friend or family member. Not recommending dogs at this point.

This class will focus on the benefits of walking to improve flexibility, decrease LDL and blood pressure along with decreasing stress and improving mental and physical health.

Friday’s – 11:00am to 11:55am
“Girl Power Group”

This class will begin on Friday, April 8th and focus on self-esteem and self-confidence for girls in 6th to 8th grade. This group is confidential! The class will be held at the Shingletown Medical Center’s Wellness Center, Black Butte Elementary School in room 20. The girls will be bussed to and from the Jr. High over to the Elementary School. The group will be instructed by Colleen Cambra, SMC Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Kelly Bullan, Case Manager.

This group will be a time for girls to collaborate and build new friendships/relationships. Crafts, share/story time, expressions, music and more. The girls will be reporting weekly (optional). This will be a time for the girls to work on academic skills, physical fitness, nutrition, identity, body image, bullying, enhancing and empowering one another, focus on motivation, healthy habits and independent living skills/life skills.
