On Thursday May 5th, Shingletown Medical Center’s, “Play Group and Raising a Reader” program celebrated Mother’s Day at Turtle Bay Exploration Park. This fun-filled event was in recognition of Mother’s day and a special thank you to the Play Group parents/mom’s whom faithfully attend the weekly Play Group, which meet at the SMC Wellness Center at Black Butte Elementary School on Thursday’s from 10:00am-12:00pm.
On arrival at Turtle Bay, they gathered together and headed over for the 10:30am Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp tour and Kids Discovery Camp. The kids engaged in story time, story book making, and viewing of the reptiles. They ventured into the Wildlife Woods, Wings of Summer, butterfly house and the Parrot Playhouse to experience the beauty of the Lorikeets housed in large aviaries.
After the tour they enjoyed an afternoon lunch under the trees while the kids played in the water feature and designated outdoor play area for children 0-5 years of age. After lunch, each child crowned their mom’s and handed them a princess wand followed by a kiss for a very special Mother’s Day surprise. Each mom received a $10 gift card from Higher Ground Coffee for their dedication and commitment to supporting their kids in a brighter future.
“Our field trip with a tour through the Turtle Bay Museum, exploring each of the exhibitions and enjoying the company and laughter of our fellow friends was a great day had by all,” stated Kelly Bullan, SMC Case Manager, “we hope to do more field trips in the future, and look forward to a fun summer with the “Play Group and Raising a Reader” participants.”
